Lumini Policy Lens Terms
Last updated on 5 October 2026
Welcome
These are the terms for Lumini Policy Lens, our free tool for asking questions about the published election policies of New Zealand's political parties. They're short and in plain English. By using Policy Lens, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
1. What these terms cover
These terms sit on top of our Website Terms. Where they differ, these terms win for Policy Lens.
1.1 Policy Lens is provided by Lumini Works Limited, NZBN 9429052844829 ("Lumini", "we", "us", "our"). You can reach us at support@lumini.nz.
1.2 Policy Lens, the public version, which anyone can use without signing in, and which may appear on our website or embedded on another organisation's website, such as a news publisher's site.
1.3 Your use of Policy Lens is also governed by our Website Terms at lumini.nz/website-terms and our Policy Lens Privacy Notice at lumini.nz/policy-lens-privacy. If anything in these terms conflicts with the Website Terms, these terms apply to Policy Lens.
1.4 Policy Lens is not part of the Lumini product. Our Terms of Use and any Service Agreement you have with us do not apply to Policy Lens, even if you're a Lumini customer.
1.5 We may update these terms. The version on this page applies while you use Policy Lens. If we make a significant change, we'll update the date above.
2. What Policy Lens is
An AI tool that answers questions using the parties' own published policy material, with links to the sources.
2.1 Policy Lens uses artificial intelligence to answer questions about the published policies of selected political parties for the 2026 New Zealand General Election.
2.2 It currently covers seven parties: the New Zealand National Party, the New Zealand Labour Party, the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand, ACT New Zealand, the New Zealand First Party, Te Pāti Māori and the Opportunity Party. These are the seven parties with the highest polling on 5 October 2026, when Policy Lens launched.
2.3 Answers on Policy Lens are drawn only from the parties' own official policy documents and from party news releases published from 1 June 2026 onwards. We don't use media coverage, commentary, polling or other non-party sources.
2.4 Each answer links to the source documents it relies on. Policy Lens updates as parties publish new policies or change existing ones, so the same question may get a different answer over time.
3. Neutrality
Policy Lens reports what the parties say. It doesn't tell you how to vote.
3.1 Policy Lens is designed to give neutral answers. It does not recommend how to vote, rank parties, judge whether a policy is good or bad, or cost policies.
3.2 Lumini is independent and non-partisan. We are not affiliated with, or funded by, any political party.
4. Accuracy and reliance
AI makes mistakes. Always check the source before you rely on an answer.
4.1 Answers are generated by AI and may be wrong, incomplete, out of date, or may miss a relevant policy. A party may also change its policy after an answer is given.
4.2 Always check the linked source documents before relying on an answer, quoting it, or sharing it.
4.3 Policy Lens gives general information only. It is not legal, financial, policy, voting or other professional advice, and you shouldn't treat it as the only basis for any decision.
4.4 If an answer conflicts with a party's own published material, the party's material is the authority.
5. Using Policy Lens fairly
Ask genuine questions. Don't misuse, overload or try to manipulate the tool.
5.1 You may use Policy Lens for your own lawful personal, research or internal organisational purposes.
5.2 You must not:
- (a) use bots, scripts or other automated means to submit questions or extract answers;
- (b) submit questions in bulk, or try to get around any question limit;
- (c) try to make Policy Lens ignore its instructions, produce non-neutral content, reveal how it works internally, or misrepresent a party's policy;
- (d) enter personal information about other people, or sensitive information about yourself that you don't need to share;
- (e) use Policy Lens to build or train another product or AI model; or
- (f) interfere with or disrupt Policy Lens or the systems behind it.
5.3 We may limit, suspend or block access for anyone we reasonably believe is breaching these terms, without notice.
6. Using the answers
Share answers fairly, with the source links, and never present them as a party's own words.
6.1 You may share individual answers for internal or non-commercial purposes, provided you keep the source links and say the answer came from Lumini Policy Lens.
6.2 You must not present an answer as a statement made by a party, a candidate, Lumini, or the website owner hosting Policy Lens, or suggest any of them endorses your use of it.
6.3 You must not republish answers in bulk, or use them commercially, without our written permission.
6.4 The parties' policy documents belong to the parties. Policy Lens and its answers are otherwise owned by Lumini, as set out in section 4 of our Website Terms.
7. Policy Lens on other websites
When Policy Lens appears on another organisation's site, Lumini provides the tool and these terms apply to it.
7.1 Policy Lens may be embedded on websites run by other organisations, such as news publishers. Lumini provides and operates Policy Lens on those sites.
7.2 The website owner's own terms and privacy policy apply to the rest of its site. These terms, our Website Terms and the Policy Lens Privacy Notice apply to Policy Lens itself.
7.3 A website hosting Policy Lens is not endorsing any party, and Lumini is not endorsing that website's own content.
8. Election day
Policy Lens closes at 7pm on Friday 6 November 2026.
8.1 Policy Lens will close at 7pm on Friday 6 November 2026, the evening before election day, wherever it appears. It will not be available on election day. This is to comply with the election day rules in the Electoral Act 1993.
8.2 We may also pause or change Policy Lens at other times if we reasonably believe it's needed to comply with electoral law or guidance from the Electoral Commission.
9. Availability and end date
Policy Lens is free, provided as is, and closes before election day.
9.1 Policy Lens is free. We provide it "as is" and "as available", and we don't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.
9.2 We may change, limit, suspend or withdraw Policy Lens, or any part of it, at any time.
9.3 Policy Lens is provided for the 2026 General Election and will close at 7pm on Friday 6 November 2026, as set out in clause 8.1.
10. Corrections
Tell us if an answer is wrong or misses something. We'll check it and fix it where needed.
10.1 If you think an answer contains an error or omission, email corrections@lumini.nz with the question you asked, the answer, and what you think is wrong.
10.2 We aim to review reports within two working days and correct Policy Lens where we agree a correction is needed. We can't promise to reply to every report individually.
11. Privacy
11.1 How we handle information collected through Policy Lens, including the questions you ask, is set out in the Policy Lens Privacy Notice at lumini.nz/policy-lens-privacy.
12. Our liability
Policy Lens is free, so to the extent the law allows we're not liable for loss from using it. Rights you can't sign away are unaffected.
12.1 To the extent the law allows, we exclude all warranties not expressly stated in these terms, and we're not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, Policy Lens or its answers.
12.2 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any right or remedy you have that can't legally be excluded or limited, including under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply to you.
12.3 Where Policy Lens is supplied and acquired in trade, and both you and Lumini are in trade, you and Lumini agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply to that supply. This exclusion applies only if the agreement is in writing and it is fair and reasonable for both parties to be bound by it. Otherwise, any rights you have under that Act remain unaffected.
13. Governing law
13.1 These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
